The legend tells that the Prince of Liège's private chef discovered the recipe in the 18th century. When faced with the challenge to produce a pastry that would be as crunchy as soft, the chef ventured to cook dough with pearls of sugar in a waffle iron. The result was a success and the Prince loved it. The Belgian waffle was born. Today, the waffles have spread worldwide and are part of Belgium's heritage.
